The Alberta weather forecast calls for more heavy rain, possible hail and thunderstorms
After a stormy start to the week in Alberta, people should brace themselves for more rain and unsettled weather. There's a risk of more thunderstorms in some areas and a cooldown in temperatures ahead.
The Weather Network (TWN) said that the rain on Monday helped "to quell the wildfire threat and current dry conditions in parts of Alberta," thankfully.
More is on the way though, with rainfall and potentially a severe risk of thunderstorms in parts of southern Alberta, expected on Wednesday. Temperatures are set to cool down ahead of the long weekend, so plan accordingly.
Much of Alberta is expected to get around 5 to 10 mm of rain on Wednesday, with some areas getting up to 30 mm — including places in the north and south.
"The system coming in from the north may also bring thunderstorms by Wednesday afternoon. They would, however, be spread out across the province in isolated storms, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and even some hail, perhaps," TWN said.
TWN added that while the thunderstorm forecast spans over a big area, the attention is on Calgary "where the storms could get a boost from the foothill dynamics."
As for the long weekend ahead, you can expect below-seasonal temperatures and some "unsettled conditions."
