This BC island is known for having some of 'the warmest ocean temperatures north of Mexico'
The soft sandy beaches, bright blue water and sunny days make this island in B.C. a summer oasis. Spanning just seven and a half kilometres long this island is small, but full of beauty and adventure.
Savary Island sits in the Strait of Georgia, just off the shore of the Sunshine Coast town of Lund — where you can take a water taxi from to reach the island. The Savary Island Ferry and Lund Water Taxi both run from Lund Harbour and can take you to Savary Island in just 15 minutes.
If you're based in Vancouver you can take the 40-minute long BC Ferries ride to Langlade, drive to Earls Cove to grab a second ferry to Saltery Bay, and then drive up the coastline to Lund.
While it's a journey to reach it from the city, you're rewarded with "some of the warmest waters north of Mexico," velvety sandy, and incredible views.
The island is the perfect getaway, but you should make sure to book ahead of time at one of the local accommodations. The tourism website says that there's no electrical power on the island or public washrooms, and because of limited public amenities "day-tripping is not encouraged at this time."
There's vacation rentals around the island though, and some overnight campsites to choose from too.
Once you arrive the island is pretty easy to explore, with trails that lead you to the stunning beaches. There's also the Savary Island Bike Shop where you can rent a bike to get around. You can spend days relaxing on the shoreline here taking in the ocean views and going for a dip in the warm water.
