This charming spot is tucked away between two beautiful lakes, with soft sand stretching along the shores and clear water to dive into. Rolling mountains surround it all, and local coffee shops and boutiques line the streets — all working to create the ultimate summer escape.
Penticton is a little city nestled in the Okanagan region, framed by endless views and hillside wineries. It's known for long hot summers, dry winters, and all the sunshine you could want. While other hot spots, like Whistler, are the usual go-tos for tourists, locals on a Narcity poll said visitors should opt for Penticton instead.
The community is bustling and if you go to Main Street on Saturdays (until October) you'll find a lively market. You can wander around and check out all the local vendors, grab some fresh fruit and local goodies.
The downtown area is bustling with local shops and tasty restaurants — but nothing beats the beach here.
According to the tourism website, Penticton is one of "just two cities in the world located between two lakes," so you can take your pick of where to swim.
On one end, you have Okanagan Lake, and on the other, you have Skaha Lake. Both lakes are fresh water, perfect for paddleboarding, swimming, and beach day fun .
Okanagan Beach is a go-to here thanks to its proximity to downtown and where lots of festivals and events are held. Skaha Lake Park & Beach is a stunning option too, with shady areas and beautiful views.
There's lots to choose from, with a handful of other beaches in the area including Sudbury Beach and Three Mile Beach.
If you want to stay cool, you can grab a tube and head to the famous Channel Float here. The 7-kilometre-long float will take you from lake to lake, and you can rent a floatie at Coyote Cruises.
