Over 130K stoves are being recalled in Canada due to fire hazard with injuries reported
If you've got an electric range in your kitchen, you might want to listen up — over 130,000 stoves are being recalled in Canada due to a fire hazard after injuries were reported.
Health Canada and LG Electronics have issued a product recall for several LG slide-in and freestanding electric ranges (stove and oven combos) because their front-mounted knobs can be accidentally turned on, potentially sparking a fire.
The 137,257 recalled LG stoves were sold across Canada between May 2016 and June 2024 at major retailers like Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe's, Rona, The Brick, Costco and Leon's, as well as online.
So far, there have been eight reported incidents in Canada, including two injuries — a minor cut and a burn.
What models are affected?
The LG stove recall includes several electric range models in black and stainless steel, all of which have five surface elements and front-mounted knobs.
If you own an LG stove, you can check for your model number, serial number and production date in one of two places: either inside the oven door or inside the storage drawer at the bottom.

What should you do if you have one?
If your stove is on the recall list, you should contact LG Electronics Canada for a free warning label that reminds you to use the Lock Out/Control Lock feature, which lets you lock the heating element controls when you aren't using the stove. You can keep using your range while waiting for the label, but LG recommends keeping children and pets away from the knobs and making sure everything is turned off before leaving the house.
LG says to use the locking feature, you'll need to press and hold the button for three seconds, until you hear a beep or chime and see a lock icon and/or "Loc" on the screen. To deactivate it, just press and hold the same button for three seconds again.
Health Canada is reminding consumers that under Canadian law, recalled products cannot be resold, donated or given away, so if your stove is affected, make sure to follow LG's instructions for next steps.
