The Calgary Stampede 2025 is finally here, and if you're planning a visit to the city for the iconic festival — there's some things you need to know first.
The festival runs from July 4 to 13 this year, putting on the World's Largest Outdoor Rodeo, serving up some wild foods, and featuring some incredible events and live music. Calgary comes alive during the Stampede, and if you're a first timer, you're going to want to go prepared.
We turned to readers on the Narcity Canada Facebook group to get advice on what you need to know before heading to the Calgary Stampede.

Getting home might be tricky
The thing about the Stampede? Calgary gets busy — like seriously busy. One reader said that it's probably going to be hard to find a ride home at the end of the day, because everyone else is trying to get back to their hotels too.
Plan ahead on when you want to leave and how to make it happen.
Save money where you can
Many people shouted out how expensive, well, everything is. From accommodations and tickets to food and water – you'll want to be mindful of spending and watch your bank account. Pick and choose what you do, and pack snacks when you can.
There's also ways to save money here, like starting the day with a free breakfast (check them out here) and taking public transit (avoid those surge charges people).
You can also make sure to head to the Stampede grounds on the value days, for free admission.
On July 4 you can get free admission to Stampede Park until 1:30 p.m. On July 6 you can also get free admission, until 11 a.m.
On July 8 you can get it from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and on July 9 entry is free for everyone until 10 a.m.
The weather is unpredictable

The thing about Calgary? The weather can and will turn on a dime. Lots of people advised visitors to prepare for all the weather possibilities – from hailstorms to hot summer heat.
One reader summarized it as: "It's raining…no it's not, the sun is out… no it's not, it's raining, is that hail? No it's not the sun is out…is it raining?"
Right now that forecast includes some rain, thunderstorms, and hot temperatures – so yeah, it's not all sunshine.
There are some must-see events
People shouted out some must-do events, which is especially helpful given there's so much going on during the festival. Some favourites were watching the Indigenous Relay Racing teams and going to the Stampede breakfasts.
Sunscreen (and a hat) is key
On the weather note, make sure to lather up the sunscreen, because you don't want a sunburn on the first day to ruin things. Play the long game here.
The hats aren't just to complete the look — you're going to want some sun protection if you're out and about all day. Stay hydrated and use that SPF!
Think comfy
Everyone wants that Calgary Stampede outfit (and the photo to go with it) but the people have spoken — and the advice is to at least wear some comfortable shoes. It might not be the time to break in those brand new cowboy boots, because days at the stampede involve lots of walking.
There's a lot to see, so make a plan
All in all, this is a massive event, and there's lots to do and see. One reader pointed out that "The Calgary Stampede isn’t just about going to the 'grounds' it’s all the activities throughout the city!"
