As the city keeps growing, companies are jumping at the chance to meet demand and set up shop in new neighbourhoods.
From No Frills, and Food Basics to Walmart, and UNIQLO, a bunch of familiar names have already expanded — or are gearing up to — across the 6ix in 2025.
Here's a closer look at what Toronto shoppers can expect to see in the city before the end of this year.
Eataly
Eataly is getting ready to launch its fourth Toronto location.
The popular Italian marketplace and dining destination will soon open at CF Toronto Eaton Centre, making Toronto the only city in North America — outside of New York — with four Eataly locations, according to the shopping centre.
The brand already operates stores at Manulife Centre in Yorkville, CF Sherway Gardens, and CF Shops at Don Mills. It also runs a seasonal pop-up at the Distillery District's Winter Village, offering festive Italian treats during the holidays.
Food Basics

Food Basics, owned by Metro Inc., will continue expanding across Toronto and the GTA in 2025.
In March, the discount grocer opened Mississauga's seventh location — a 29,000+ square-foot store at 4152 Confederation Parkway — and the first of seven new Ontario stores planned for this year.
The company has also confirmed a future Toronto location at the ROQ City development. A 33,000-square-foot store is set to open at 261 Queen St. E. by mid-2027.
No Frills

Just last week, discount grocery chain No Frills opened an 8,800 sq. ft. store at 77 Shuter St., marking its latest downtown expansion.
According to a press release shared with Narcity, No Frills owner Loblaw Companies Ltd. says the new No Frills will bring 68 jobs to the Shuter and Mutual area.
The Shuter St. opening follows the debut of No Frills at 899 College St. in March, which serves the communities of Little Italy and Little Portugal.
They're part of Loblaw's broader $2.2 billion investment in 2025 to expand its national footprint and boost the Canadian economy.
The company also owns Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart, Your Independent Grocer, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, Valu-mart, and T&T Supermarkets. It plans to open 80 new stores nationwide, creating up to 8,000 new jobs.
T&T Supermarket
T&T Supermarket is expanding its presence in the GTA, bringing its whole Asian grocery experience to more neighbourhoods.
In February, the beloved chain opened a new 31,000-square-foot location at 20 Edward St., just steps from Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square) and close to the University of Toronto. The opening follows the success of its College St. store and marked T&T's second downtown Toronto location.
The company plans to launch a 40,000-square-foot store in Mississauga in the summer of 2026. Set to open in the Erin Mills Power Centre at 3055 Vega Blvd., the new location will serve communities near Dundas St. W. and Hwy. 403.
Both stores promise the complete T&T experience — Asian snacks, live seafood, beauty products, gifts, and ready-to-eat favourites like sushi, Chinese crepes, and popcorn chicken. Shoppers can also expect Southeast Asian staples, including Mama Sita's seasonings, Lucky Me noodles, Jack & Jill chips, and Gina mango juice.
UNIQLO
UNIQLO already has a strong foothold in the GTA and is ready to grow even more in 2025.
The Japanese fashion retailer currently operates locations at CF Eaton Centre, Yorkdale Shopping Centre, CF Fairview Mall, Scarborough Town Centre, Oshawa Centre, CF Markville, and Vaughan Mills. It also has three Mississauga stores: Sherway Gardens, Square One, and Heartland Town Centre. It also serves Brampton shoppers from its store at Bramalea City Centre.
Now, UNIQLO is bringing its style to an even more central location: Union Station in downtown Toronto. The upcoming store will allow commuters to shop before hopping on the subway, GO train, streetcar, or bus.
The Union Station location is expected to open this summer.
Walmart
Walmart is making big expansions in the GTA.

Walmart will broaden its presence across the GTA as part of a $6.5 billion investment plan to grow its Canadian operations over the next five years.
In 2025 alone, the retail giant will launch three new locations within the GTA, further solidifying its position in the region.
It has already opened a new Walmart Supercentre in Port Credit, Mississauga. Later in the year, the Walmart Supercentre at Hopedale Mall in Oakville will open. Customers will have access to a wide assortment of fresh produce and general merchandise complemented by licensed pharmacists who deliver pharmacy and healthcare services tailored to the Oakville community.
Walmart Canada's most technologically advanced distribution centre will also begin operations in Vaughan in 2025.
Value Village
After opening a massive location near Sankofa Square, Value Village continued its Toronto expansion in 2025 with a brand-new store in North York.
The latest location, which opened in May at 2549 Weston Rd., promises shoppers a rotating selection of nearly 34,000 items weekly — from vintage denim and designer gems to unique homewares and well-worn paperbacks.
Value Village says it has diverted 1.5 billion pounds of reusable goods from Canadian landfills over the past four years.
Nike
Nike is stepping up its game in the GTA.
The iconic sportswear brand will relocate from its current spot on Level 1 to a brand-new, two-level flagship store spanning approximately 18,000 square feet at Trinity Way within the CF Toronto Eaton Centre.
Nike already maintains a strong presence across the GTA, with locations at Fairview Mall, Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Nike Bloor, Scarborough Town Centre, and CF Sherway Gardens.
The upgraded Eaton Centre store promises to deliver a much broader selection for shoppers — offering more choice, more space, and an elevated retail experience in the heart of downtown Toronto.
Simons
Simons is moving significantly into Toronto in 2025, with two new department stores on the way.
The Quebec-based retailer will open locations at CF Toronto Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Shopping Centre, marking its biggest expansion into Ontario.
At the Eaton Centre, Simons will take over the former Nordstrom space, transforming it into a three-level, 110,000-square-foot flagship with prominent street-level frontage.
Meanwhile, the Yorkdale store will span 118,000 square feet over two floors, adding another anchor to one of the country's most high-traffic shopping destinations. It is expected to open later in the year.
The evolving retail landscape reflects Toronto's rapid growth and diverse shopping habits, from luxury department stores to budget-friendly staples and innovative flagships.
