THINGS TO KNOW
❗NEW TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR ITALY
If you're flying to Italy anytime soon, you'll want to read through a new travel advisory from the Government of Canada. A warning war issued on June 3 for Canadian travellers to "exercise a high degree of caution" due to a "threat of terrorism" in Italy.
"Terrorists have carried out attacks in several European cities and further attacks elsewhere in Europe are likely. Attacks in Italy cannot be ruled out," the advisory reads. Other popular European tourist countries are at the same risk level due to the threat of terrorism, including Germany, Spain, and France.
🛩️ WESTJET'S NEW FRILLS-FREE FARE
WestJet has introduced a new frills-free fare option and not everyone is a fan. The new UltraBasic fare is the airline's lowest-priced option and gives travellers the choice of adding certain extras like seat choice or checked luggage to their flight. The new fare includes a personal item and a pre-assigned seat at the back of the plane. Travellers have the option of adding checked baggage (which will now include a carry-on) to their flight as well as seat selection for additional fees, the airline says. Many WestJet customers have taken to social media to air out their frustrations and say the new option is going "backwards."
🍿 FREE OUTDOOR MOVIES THIS SUMMER
Free outdoor movies will be back in Vancouver this summer. There are several venues around the city where you'll be able to catch a flick between July and August. Sunset Cinema at The Shipyards will be back with its first film Barbie on July 31. Summer Movie Nights at the Vancouver Art Gallery will also be coming back, but those dates and films are TBD. The first outdoor film event will kick off on June 27 with Deckchair Cinema hosted by the Polygon Gallery. Those films will be by donation.
☀️ WEATHER
The weather will see a bit of a dip in temperatures this week with high temps in the teens. The week will start at 19 C on Monday before a chance of rain sets in on Tuesday. We might see rain return on Friday and Saturday with a 40 percent chance on both days. The temperatures will hover between 17-18 C mid-week and drop to around 15 C for the weekend.

🫶 BC'S MOST CHARMING TOWN
If travel is on your mind, how about taking a road trip to BC's most charming town? Online slots site Betway ranked the most charming towns in Canada and the U.S. and Langley, B.C. ranked high on the list. Betway highlighted Langley's 13 parks, more than any other Canadian town on the list. It also noted that the town has 17 landmarks, and joint second most museums on the list.
❌ OVERRATED TRAVEL DESTINATIONS IN BC
There are so many beautiful places to see in B.C., but some attractions can be a waste of time, especially if you have a short trip. Editor Morgan Leet lived in B.C. for two years and has curated a list of places she thinks are overrated based on her personal experience, including the Gastown steam clock, Garibaldi Lake and more. 🎢 FASTEST MOUNTAIN COASTER IN CANADA
The fastest mountain coaster in Canada is officially open for the 2024 season in Metro Vancouver. The Eagle Coaster is a 1.7-kilometre ride at Cypress Mountain that takes you on an exciting journey as it weaves you through various twists and turns, while also offering breathtaking views of the city. The Eagle Coaster is open on June 15 and 16 this week. You can book your tickets online.
🎤 ERAS NIGHT AT PLAYLAND
Calling all Swifties! The PNE is hosting an Eras Night at Playland this weekend and the event will feature the singer's greatest hits, friendship bracelets, glitter mini donuts and more! All guests will also be automatically entered into a draw to win a pair of lower bowl tickets to see Swift in concert in Vancouver. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on June 15. Tickets are available on the PNE website.
🍎 BC CIDER FESTIVAL
The fifth annual BC Cider Festival is happening at The Pipe Shop in North Vancouver on June 16. The event will feature cideries from BC, the Pacific Northwest and abroad. You'll be able to sample a full range of authentic craft ciders at the tasting event. It runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets start at $59 and can be purchased online.
🎭 BARD ON THE BEACH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
Head to Vanier Park on June 11 for the kick-off to the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival. The event will run for its 35th season from June 11 to September 21, 2024. The first show will be Twelfth Night on the BMO Stage and then Hamlet will begin on June 13. Tickets are available online.
🥳 5X BLOCKPARTY
Canada's largest South Asian youth event is set to take place on June 15 at Surrey Civic Plaza. The 5X Blockparty will feature some of Metro Vancouver's finest South Asian artists. There will also be many food options, art installations, and a vendor village. The event, which starts at 2 p.m., is free, but you should RSVP online.
JOB POSTINGS
💼 VANCOUVER AIRPORT JOBS
The Vancouver International Airport is hiring for a ton of jobs and several of them don't require a degree to apply. The Vancouver airport has over 30 jobs posted on its website and all the positions come with neat perks. YVR is also a Living Wage Employer, meaning if you work for them then you'll be making at least $25.68 an hour.
👗 ARITZIA IS HIRING FOR ITS WAREHOUSE SALE
Aritzia is hiring for over 1,200 positions for its annual Vancouver Warehouse Sale in late summer. The fashion retailer is looking to fill various positions, including cashiers, wrappers, team leads and general associates who will work during the massive sale. The hourly wage for these positions is between $17.40 and $18.50 and will depend on experience. If you're interested in applying, you can fill out the online application and head to the hiring fair happening from June 24-27 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
