Most of California is rolling back to the most restrictive of lockdown tiers, Governor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday, mostly due to an increase of house parties and family gatherings...which he also attended.

The governor admitted to attending a birthday party at a restaurant in Napa Valley with his wife a couple of weeks ago, where many other couples were also gathered.

He apologized, saying he needed to practice what he preached, but not before he made a bunch of weird excuses as to why he chose to attend.

A few weeks ago I was asked to go to a friend's 50th birthday, my wife and I, a friend that I've known for almost 20 years and who, well, put a lot of time and energy into his 50th birthday. Gavin Newsom

Newsom started with this, insuring us that this wasn't just any friend — it was one he has known for a very long time.

The governor made it a point several times to mention how early in the night the party was, stating, "It started at 4 o'clock, it was one of those early reservations" then later again saying that, yes, it was an "early dinner" but that "didn't matter."

He also mentioned that the outdoor party was in Napa, where the restrictions were more "relatively loose compared to some other counties," which is much like someone going to a bar and using the excuse of, "Well, the bar WAS open."

The governor assured us that he has definitely only been out three times since lockdown started in February — twice with his wife, and the third being this time.

Most of California is in the most restrictive purple tier now, so chances are there won't be any more birthday parties in the near future.
