Over the weekend B.C. was hit with a strong atmospheric river, which led to significant floods in areas throughout Vancouver, the Lower Mainland as a whole, and parts of Vancouver Island.

Videos of Metro Vancouver show significant flooding in the streets, so much so that some people took their kayaks to the roads, and fish were found swimming in them.

An atmospheric river is heading for Vancouver, and the weather forecast is calling for up to 100 mm of rain in some areas and possible flooding. A rainfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver, which says the strong storm is expected on Friday and Saturday.

The Environment Canada warning says that the heavy rain will start on Friday and continue through to Saturday, with storm totals of 40 to 70 mm in Metro Vancouver and totals potentially exceeding 100 mm over the North Shore Mountains. Totals of 70 to 100 mm are possible for the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

Cold weather is set to hit B.C. this week with below-seasonal temperatures and snow, but eyes are on the atmospheric river predicted to come right after.

Higher elevations along the coast and the Rockies are expected to see snow this week, and even some lower elevation areas like Whistler Village may get a taste of winter by Friday, according to The Weather Network forecast. British Columbians may be facing a potential flooding risk, as two atmospheric rivers are expected to bring over 100 millimetres of rain this week alone.

The B.C. government released a statement on Tuesday, encouraging people to prepare for the upcoming storms this week. "People living in the Lower Mainland, on Vancouver Island and on the North and Central Coast can expect stormy weather between today and Oct. 31," it said.
