Canadians say these universities have the best reputation and the top three might surprise you
Canadians have revealed the best universities based on reputation.
One school that's not usually on these rankings is competing with Canada's big three!
A few months ago, Narcity posted on Facebook and asked people, "Which university in Canada do you think has the best reputation?"
Based on more than 150 comments, there are over 20 post-secondary institutions that Canadians think are the most reputable.
So, here's what you know about where your school ranks if you're heading to university in the fall or are a graduate of a Canadian university!
These are Canada's best universities based on reputation, according to Canadians:
- McGill
- University of Toronto
- Queen's University
Usually, the University of Toronto is recognized as Canada's best post-secondary school in global rankings.
But more Canadians think McGill is the most reputable university.
Also, the University of British Columbia typically rounds out the top three, but it was beaten by Queen's for the third spot overall.
The next most reputable post-secondary institutions are the University of British Columbia, the University of Waterloo and St. Francis Xavier University.
Then, Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University are tied for seventh place.
After that, the University of Guelph and McMaster University are tied for eighth, and the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Ottawa are tied for ninth.
These are the Canadian universities that only got one comment each as the post-secondary school with the best reputation:
- University of Alberta
- Memorial University
- Vancouver Film School
- Lakehead University
- University of Victoria
- Université de Montréal
- University of Calgary
- Western University
- Simon Fraser University
Even though a lot of Canadians had a clear answer to the question of which university has the best reputation, some people couldn't choose a school.
"I would say it depends on which program you are interested in doing," someone commented.
A few agreed that specific programs of study are what make a post-secondary school the most reputable, rather than the academic institution as a whole.
Another person said that it's "hard to pick just one" between U of T, McGill and UBC, which are Canada's big three post-secondary schools.
"There's no one 'best university' in Canada," someone commented. "Being 'best' really means being best for you."
One person said that most of the universities in Canada have a good reputation.
This year, the University of Toronto was the top Canadian school in a ranking of the most prestigious universities in the world, but it was dethroned as Canada's best university in another global ranking.
When Narcity asked Canadians what they think the best university in Canada is, U of T only came in third.
