An earthquake hit off the coast of Victoria early on Thursday morning, and there have been reports of people feeling it in both the Vancouver and Victoria areas.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.0, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The USGS said that the earthquake occurred at 4:05 a.m., and had a depth of 52 km. British Columbians took to X, formally Twitter, to report if they felt the shake.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island on Thursday morning, followed by a string of smaller ones. Earthquakes Canada is tracking what it's calling a "swarm of earthquakes."

The initial 6.4 magnitude quake happened at 8:08 a.m., about 220 kilometres west of Tofino at a depth of 10 kilometres. The subsequent three were all in the same area, with the second arriving at 8:35 a.m. at a magnitude of 4.3.

A series of earthquakes took place in northern Alberta last night, and one of them might have been the largest ever recorded in the province.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the first earthquake – a 5.2-magnitude quake – was felt around 29 kilometres outside of Reno in northern Alberta at around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29.

A 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit B.C. on Wednesday afternoon, and residents of Prince George could feel it. Although it was minor, the location of the earthquake makes it a pretty rare event.

A video posted to social media captured the small shake, which Earthquakes Canada said happened 32 kilometres southwest of the northern B.C. city at 3:07 p.m. They added that it was "lightly felt," by people there.
