Franktown is a small village located in the municipality of Beckwith, about 45 minutes from Ottawa.
Every May, the area transforms into a floral paradise full of gorgeous lilac blooms, earning it the nickname the "Lilac Capital of Ontario."
According to Lanark County Tourism, the exact number of lilac bushes in Franktown is unknown, but local legend has it that a single lilac bush planted in 1808 by a newly arrived Scottish woman resulted in the 12 hectares of wild lilacs scattered in and around Franktown today.
To celebrate these fragrant flowers, the town hosts an annual Lilac Festival, taking place on May 24 this year.
The event features a breakfast, BBQ, and performances, including a symphony and Highland dancing.
You can even enjoy historical horse-drawn wagon rides down Lilac Lane, making you feel like you've travelled into the pages of a storybook.
The hidden pathway is lined with endless purple blooms and looks like a painting come to life.
Other highlights include a craft market, face painting, and an antique display.
Franktown isn't the only spot known for its beautiful lilac bushes. The small town of Warkworth also hosts an annual Lilac Festival, complete with activities, food, and a trail of sweet-smelling blooms.
