The Group of Seven (G7) summit is just about wrapping up in Kananaskis, Alberta, but the world's most powerful leaders wasted no time serving up a few awkward — and downright cringe-worthy — moments.

On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, U.K. Prime Minister Kier Starmer, and E.U. leaders Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen as the usual G7 participants.

Shinzo Abe, who served as Japan's prime minister for the better part of the last decade, was shot and killed Friday while giving a speech in Japan, government officials say.

The 67-year-old was campaigning in Nara, in western Japan, when someone fired two shots at him, video posted by Japan's public broadcaster shows. Police arrested a suspect at the scene and Abe was rushed to hospital where he ultimately died.

Russian President Vladimir Putin wasn't happy to hear the G7 leaders joking about his topless horseback-riding photos, and he suggested on Thursday that it'd be "disgusting" to see all those politicians with their clothes off.

The Russian leader was responding to a moment at the G7 summit earlier in the week when U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggested that everyone at the meeting should take off their clothes to "show that we're tougher than Putin."
