Remember when you were a kid and General Mills' cereal boxes came with cool collectibles like merch and video games?
You'd rush to find out what goodies were inside, and then you'd spend hours assembling collectables, playing with movie-themed figurines or — if you really hit the jackpot — building a theme park on your new Roller Coaster Tycoon computer game.
It was a kind of excitement that kids these days wouldn't understand, until now.
It's been a while since we dug through our cereal for whatever surprise was at the bottom — 15 years to be exact — and it's time for a retro blast from the past.
General Mills Canada is officially putting free collectibles back inside specially marked cereal boxes, bringing back the excitement of getting a surprise with breakfast for both Canadian adults and kids (yes, adults, this surprise is for you too).
One million limited-edition boxes of Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms are now available at major retailers nationwide, and if you're fortunate enough to get your hands on one, you'll find one of three spoons that change colour when dipped in cold milk or yogurt.
Each spoon features one of General Mills' iconic characters: Buzz the Bee, Lucky or Crazy Squares.

Even though it's been over a decade since General Mills has done their "Free Inside" campaign, the colour-changing spoons are only here for a limited time while supplies last.
So if you want to relive your '90s childhood, it's time to get elbow deep in a box of Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Lucky Charms and keep your fingers crossed that you'll be able to find all three collectible spoons.
Whether you're 12, 20 or 35 years old, you'll find comfort in the classic '90s ritual of Saturday morning cereal.
