Ontario Premier Doug Ford has suggested an ambitious plan to tackle gridlock across the GTA: building a massive tunnel under Highway 401. If built, the tunnel would stretch from Brampton to Scarborough, covering roughly 60 kilometres and serving as a dual-purpose expressway for both cars and transit.

Ford made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday, where he highlighted the urgent need to address increasing traffic congestion and the lack of space for traditional highway expansion. "This tunnel and expressway will cut gridlock, support economic growth, and help get people moving faster," Ford said.

A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 sent several people to the hospital on Friday morning, with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirming that one of the cars caught fire.

OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt told Narcity that the incident occurred after a single vehicle attempted to transfer from the express to the collectors' lane near Whites Road in Pickering and struck a concrete structure.

An Ontario driver is "lucky to be alive" after a wheel flew off a transport truck and slammed into his vehicle on Thursday morning.

According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the incident occurred on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Highway 427 after one of the truck's wheels became separated and flew off an overpass onto the 401 below.
