Ontarians can trade their loose change for limited-edition coins this week and here's how
Coin collectors, listen up as you won't want to miss this! For a limited time, the Royal Canadian Mint is offering Ontarians a chance to exchange their regular pocket change for various special edition loonies and toonies, and it's completely free to do.
The Mint is offering the chance to collect three unique coins during this exchange event, including the brand-new $2 RCAF coin honouring 100 years of service by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Unveiled just yesterday, it showcases the RCAF roundel and nine iconic aircraft, symbolizing a century of protection and peacekeeping. This coin is available in both a blue-coloured and a silver-and-gold version.
Also available is the 2024 loonie celebrating the 150th birthday of Anne of Green Gables author L.M. Montgomery. Released in June, the coin features a portrait of Montgomery alongside Anne Shirley and picturesque P.E.I. farmland. You can collect it in coloured or all-gold versions.
Lastly, the 2023 toonie featuring King Charles III's effigy is up for grabs. Released in November 2023, it marked the first time a new monarch had appeared on Canadian coins in 70 years!
You can trade your coins for any of these three special edition ones by visiting specific Canada Post locations in Ontario this week.
They'll be available at the Richmond Hill Drive Through location on Thursday, September 19 and at the Trenton Main Post Office on Friday, September 20, and there's no additional fee to exchange — you'll just need to trade in some cash of the same face value.
Just remember, there's a limit on how many coins you can exchange, and it's cash-only. All Canadian circulation coins and banknote denominations will be accepted, so make sure to bring your loose change.
