Once upon a time, I decided to uproot my city girl life and move from Toronto to a tiny town in Ontario. We’re talking tiny, like a population of 5,500, tiny.

I know, wild right? But I had my reasons. First of all, Gananoque (where I moved to) is one of the prettiest places I've ever visited in Ontario. Second, I was in desperate need of a change. And while Toronto has a lot of perks, I was ready for a new chapter.

Once upon a time, I had the brilliant idea to pack my bags and move from Toronto to a small town in Ontario (Gananoque). It was all so picture-perfect in my mind: being closer to nature, having access to more affordable housing, and having a chance to reinvent myself a little. Start gardening, perhaps. Join a club.

And it was charming, for sure. Not to mention incredibly pretty. But the magic didn't last as long as I thought it would, and the reality I walked into didn’t quite match the fantasy I'd romanticized while sitting in my tiny, overpriced Toronto apartment. I only gave it a year, which really isn't that much time, but still, it was enough to realize that small-town living simply isn't for me. That being said, I'm super happy I gave it a shot and definitely learned a few things about myself along the way.

Although I've come to realize I'm a city girl at heart, there came a time when I decided to shake things up and give small-town living a try. I packed up and made the move from Toronto to a small town in Ontario, ready to live out my Stars Hollow dreams.

I thought, what the heck — why not give it a shot? Being closer to nature, the lower cost of living, and joining a tight-knit community were all things I'd romanticized, for sure.

St. Marys is a charming spot for a day trip or weekend getaway. Located less than 2 hours from Toronto, the little riverside village is known as "The Stonetown" due to the many limestone buildings and homes in the area.
