Ontario Premier Doug Ford says "positive news" about COVID-19 restrictions will come by the end of this week.

Ontario has been back in a modified Step Two for just over a week – but restrictions may not lift as soon as some Ontarians hope.

In a press conference on January 13, Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, says he "can't guarantee" that the new restrictions will lift on January 26 like originally planned.

With the rapid rise of COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU admissions, the Ontario government made the call to reintroduce some lockdown measures to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.

As of January 5, a modified step two was put in place, imposing restrictions such as five-person gathering limits indoors, and indoor dining, gyms, and movie theatres being temporarily shut down. Some Ontarians are, undoubtedly, fed up with going into another lockdown.

On Monday, Doug Ford announced that Ontario will be moving into a modified Step Two of reopening starting on January 5 at 12:01 a.m.

This means the province will see a bunch of new restrictions such as the closure of indoor dining, smaller gathering limits and schools switching to remote learning.
