Of all the months that honour favourite foods, National Sauce Month is among the easiest to get behind. After all, who doesn't love sauce?
To celebrate, Subway® Canada (the nation's sauciest restaurant) has introduced a limited-edition sauce marking the occasion. Dubbed "Mojo," this sauce boasts a creamy and smoky taste with a blend of herbs and a kick of cayenne pepper, giving any sub a flavourful twist. *
The restaurant brand also went on a mission this month to uncover the saucy habits of sandwich fans across the country, including one customized approach that'll change how you order your sub.
According to The Harris Poll, 65% of Gen Zs and millennials layer multiple sauces to create their own custom flavour combo — think Peppercorn Ranch on top of Chipotle Southwest and House Sauce, or Nashville-Style Hot Sauce, Smoky Honey Mustard all mixed up with creamy Mayonnaise.
Did you know that Subway Canada offers 16 different sauces, including an exclusive lineup only available for Canadians? This features options like Nashville-Style Hot Sauce, Cuban-Style Sauce, and two more launching later this year. That’s a lot of tasty choices!
This wasn't the only saucy insight from The Harris Poll. Canadians are spicier than you might think, with 40% preferring to heat things up with fiery sauce. Gen X took the title for the age group that likes it hottest.
While more than 50% of B.C. and Quebec customers stick to pretty basic combinations, half of the Canadians surveyed said that the perfect sub includes two or three different sauces.
Perhaps the most controversial finding is that two in three Gen Z and millennial Canadians refuse to eat a sauceless sub — because what’s up with that third person?
