For those who haven't marked their calendars yet, Canadian Thanksgiving Day falls on Monday, October 14 this year.
While some grocery stores, malls, shopping centres and attractions remain open across Ontario this Thanksgiving, quite a few places will be shutting their doors to celebrate the holiday, so it's good to know what spots will be open in case you suddenly realize you forgot the cranberry sauce.
From grocery and liquor stores to malls, public transit, government services and popular attractions, here's everything you need to know about what's open and closed across Ontario during this Thanksgiving long weekend — including info on Costco, Loblaws, LCBO, Canada Post, the Toronto Eaton Centre, ServiceOntario and more.
Grocery stores
Costco: All Costco stores in Ontario are closed on Thanksgiving Monday. Many stores will also have reduced hours on Saturday and Sunday, with most open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. You can check your local warehouse's hours on the Costco website here.
Farm Boy: Most locations are closed on Thanksgiving Day and have modified hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. However, a few select locations will be open on Monday:
- Rideau (Ottawa): Open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- College & Bay (Toronto): Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sugar Wharf (Toronto): Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Harbourfront (Toronto): Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- St. Clair (Toronto): Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Yonge & Silver Maple (Richmond Hill): Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Aurora: Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Newmarket: Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Port Credit: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bronte: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Kingston: Open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Metro: Most locations across the province will be closed on Monday and may have modified hours on Sunday, and you can check the Metro website for your local store's hours. That said, in Toronto and Ottawa, the following stores will be open on Monday:
- 444 Yonge St., Toronto: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 754 Bank St., Ottawa: Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- 255 Rideau St., Ottawa: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Loblaws: Most locations across the province will be closed on Monday so check the Loblaws website for your local store. In Toronto and Ottawa, the following stores will be open on Monday:
- 60 Carlton St., Toronto: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 64 Isabella St., Ottawa: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 363 Rideau St, Ottawa: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Whole Foods: Most locations will be closed on Monday, with three exceptions:
- Lansdowne Park (Ottawa): Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Yorkville (Toronto): Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Square One (Mississauga): Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Walmart: Locations will be operating with normal business hours on Saturday and Sunday, but most will be closed on Monday, including those in Toronto and Ottawa. However, the following locations will be open on Monday:

- 60 McNaughton Ave. Unit #16, Wallaceburg: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 8300 Hwy. 27, Woodbridge: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- 1900 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 3600 Major Mackenzie Dr. W., Vaughan: Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- 3120 Dougall Ave., Windsor: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- 7100 Tecumseh Rd. E., Windsor: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Rabba: All Rabba stores in the GTA are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week — including stat holidays.
Liquor stores
LCBO and The Beer Store: All locations in Ontario are closed for Thanksgiving on Monday. Stores will be open at their usual hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Wine Rack: Some locations may be open. You may want to call your local spot ahead of time as holiday hours don't appear to be posted on their website.
Transit
TTC (Toronto): The TTC will be operating on a holiday service schedule for Thanksgiving Day on Monday. All routes will operate on Sunday service schedules but will start earlier, around 6 a.m. If you use a route that doesn't normally have service on Sundays, it won't be in service on the holiday Monday either.
GO Transit (GTHA): Thanksgiving Day will be treated as a Saturday across all GO Transit routes in the GTA, meaning service is running according to the Saturday schedule for each route. Some GO Transit routes don't offer weekend service, so you'll need to make alternate plans if you need to travel.
OC Transpo (Ottawa): On Monday, October 14, the OC Transpo will operate on a Sunday schedule. O-Train Line 1 service will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., while Line 2 bus service will run from 7:15 a.m. to 11 p.m. Shopper Route 301 will not be running.
Shopping malls
The following shopping malls in Ontario will be open with modified hours for Thanksgiving on Monday, October 14.
Toronto & the GTA:
- Toronto Eaton Centre: Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Toronto Premium Outlets: Open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Square One (Mississauga): Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Bramalea City Centre (Brampton): Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Vaughan Mills (Vaughan): Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Markville Shopping Centre (Markham): 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Upper Canada Mall (Newmarket): Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ottawa:
- Rideau Centre: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Tanger Outlets: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Services
Canada Post: Canada Post is closed on national, provincial and territorial holidays. That means there is no collection or delivery of mail happening on Thanksgiving Day. However, post offices operated by private businesses may be open if their host business is.
Banks: Most banks are closed.
Service Canada: Locations in Ontario are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
ServiceOntario: Locations are closed on Thanksgiving but some ServiceOntario services have recently moved online, so you can still renew your driver's license, licence plate, health card and more.
Things to do
Cineplex: Theatres are open in Ontario on Thanksgiving.
Toronto attractions:
- Royal Ontario Museum (ROM): Open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO): Open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Casa Loma: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Ripley's Aquarium: Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Toronto Zoo: Open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ottawa attractions:
- National Gallery of Canada: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Agriculture and Food Museum: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Aviation and Space Museum: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Canada Science and Technology Museum: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
