As of Friday, August 26, Toronto Public Health will start vaccinating more eligible people against monkeypox, in alignment with the Ontario government's newly released guidance for who can get "pre-exposure vaccination."

The case numbers for monkeypox in Canada have increased since the disease was first publicly reported in the country back in May 2022.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), as of July 4, there are 300 publicly reported cases of the illness across four different provinces.

Two cases of monkeypox in Canada have now been officially confirmed and this is the first time cases have been found in the country.

On May 19, the Public Health Agency of Canada announced that two of the samples from Quebec sent to the National Microbiology Laboratory have since tested positive for monkeypox.
