The 'Christmas Capital of Canada' is like a Hallmark movie come to life with dazzling streets
It's not hard to find a winter wonderland in Canada, with dozens of snowy small towns, white-tipped peaks, and cozy streets to choose from. One city though has been dubbed the 'Christmas Capital of Canada'.
Thanks to its range of festive events, the likelihood of a white Christmas, and picturesque holiday backdrops, Winnipeg is known as the Christmas capital of the country.
There are a ton of holiday events and things to do in the city to get you in the Christmas spirit, from outdoor skating rinks aglow with dazzling lights to drive-thru light shows and ballet performances. It's not surprising that the city is the backdrop to many Hallmark holiday flicks, because it's giving all the festive feels.
This year the city is taking it a step further with Winnipeg’s Largest Christmas Market, running from November 28 to December 1, 2024 with over 125 artisans.
One of the most picturesque spots though is the Nestawaya River Trail, when it's lit up with twinkling lights that make it feel like a rom-com set in the best way.
Of course, there's also a massive parade to celebrate the season. The Manitoba Hydro Santa Parade is on November 16 at 5 p.m., kicking off the holiday fun.
You can also head indoors for some magical experience, like the We call it Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Dance & Light Show, which has glow-in-the-dark dancers lighting up the stage.
For even more dazzle you can also check out the Assiniboine Park Zoo Lights, which runs throughout the holidays.
The city might have earned its nickname just thanks to the sheer amount of lights they have for the holidays because there's also Canad Inns Winter Wonderland, which is Manitoba's largest drive-thru light show.
You can drive past over a million lights, in different themed areas throughout Red River Exhibition Park.
