Florida State Representative Shevrin Jones tested positive for COVID-19 last week and has been sharing his experience with daily video diaries on Twitter.

In his video posted on Monday, July 6, Jones called on Governor Ron DeSantis to issue a statewide mask mandate. The House District 101 representative went on to say that what's going on in his body is "something he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy."

Dear Governor DeSantis, I would not direct this video to you if I did not believe it was needed. Know this is not a call-out. This is a call-in. A call-in to what I am going through and hopefully me being a spokesperson for others who are going through what I'm going through.

While many Florida counties have enacted their own mask requirements, many individuals have expressed their frustration and concern with DeSantis’ lack of statewide mandate on Twitter with the previously trending topic #DeSantisFailedFlorida.

Jones told Miami New Times that he felt it was important that used his platform to show the governor and the Florida public just how serious the infection can be.

Jones expressed on Twitter that he wishes to also see a better contact tracing system in Florida, which he claimed was unprofessional.
