The weather in Ontario has been all kind of nasty lately for the first week of April and it's hanging on for a bit longer.

After 50,000 people in the province were left without power last night, Thursday's forecast is predicting over 20 centimetres of snow for some areas.

"For some, this early April snowstorm has been more significant than anything from the recent winter season, as a clash of two weather systems has resulted in this potent spring set up," says The Weather Network.

The day got off to a blustery start in Ottawa on Thursday with over 10 centimetres of snow on the ground before the sun rose with wind and heavy, wet snow taking down some powerlines.

"Gusts between 50-70+ km/h are expected before easing through the evening hours on Thursday," says TWN of Ottawa's forecast today.

Combined with the wind, there will be up to 20 centimetres of snow in Ottawa on Thursday.

"Even heavier totals are likely in Algonquin, the Laurentians, and parts of the Eastern Townships," warns TWN. "There is the potential for some of these areas to overachieve with snowfall amounts."

After the heavy snow on Thursday, flurries will continue for Friday morning but it's expected to get warmer.

Snow flurries will continue into Friday morning, though with a bump in temperatures bringing mixed precipitation and scattered rain.

"A warming trend is forecast into the weekend, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal," says TWN.
