Of course, gift cards are inherently a scam; imagine giving a major corporation a binding, zero-interest loan upon which they can earn interest until you use/inevitably misplace your gift card? American WNBA player Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison on Thursday by a Russian court, following a trial that convicted her of drug possession.

The basketball player was detained by Russian authorities at an airport close to Moscow in February. She was carrying a vape cartridge containing cannabis oil in her luggage while travelling play club basketball, reported BBC.

Brittney Griner, a seven-time WNBA All-Star who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, pleaded guilty to drug charges this morning, adding she had no intent to break the law.

She was arrested in Russia back in February after officials found hashish oil in a vape that was in her luggage, and has been detained in the country since then.
