That includes the climate action incentive payment — which is also known as the CAIP — and it offers a lot of money to Canadians.

What is the climate action incentive payment?
The climate action incentive payment is a tax-free credit that's given out to help individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing.
There is a basic amount and rural supplement for residents of Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, P.E.I. and Saskatchewan.
Who is eligible for the climate action incentive payment?
You are eligible for the climate action incentive payment if you meet both of these conditions at the beginning of the payment month:
- you are a resident of Canada in the month before the payment
- you are a resident of an applicable climate action incentive payment province on the first day of the payment month
Also, to be eligible for the benefit you must either be at least 19 years old in the month before the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) makes a payment.
If you get the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), you'll get an additional amount as part of your climate action incentive payment for each child.
You have an eligible child all of these conditions are met at the beginning of the payment month:
- your child is under 19 years old
- your child lives with you
- you are primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of your child
- your child is registered for the CCB
Who gets the climate action incentive payment?
Residents of Canada and newcomers to Canada who live in Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, P.E.I. or Saskatchewan can get the climate action incentive payment.
If you're a resident of Canada, you don't need to apply to get the climate action incentive payment.
You just have to file your income tax return each year and the CRA will send you the payments you're eligible for.
If you have a spouse or common-law partner, only one of you will get the payment for the family.
Whenever the CRA makes a payment, the money will go to whoever files their tax return first.
To continue receiving the climate action incentive payment, you need to file an income tax return every year.
If you're a newcomer to Canada, you need to complete forms and mail the completed forms to your local tax centre to get this benefit.
There are different forms to complete depending on whether or not you have children.
How much is the climate action incentive payment?
How much money you get from the climate action incentive payment depends on your family situation and the province you live in.
Unlike other federal benefits, it doesn't get reduced based on your adjusted family net income.
Alberta's climate action incentive payment base quarterly amount is:
- $193 for an individual
- $96.50 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $48.25 per child under 19
- $96.50 for the first child in a single-parent family
Manitoba's quarterly base payment:
- $132 for an individual
- $66 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $33 per child under 19
- $66 for the first child in a single-parent family
New Brunswick's base quarterly payments is:
- $92 for an individual
- $46 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $23 per child under 19
- $46 for the first child in a single-parent family
Newfoundland and Labrador's climate action incentive payment offers a base quarterly amount of:
- $164 for an individual
- $82 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $41 per child under 19
- $82 for the first child in a single-parent family
Nova Scotia's quarterly base payment is:
- $124 for an individual
- $62 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $31 per child under 19
- $62 for the first child in a single-parent family
The climate action incentive payment for Ontario gives out a quarterly base amount of:
- $122 for an individual
- $61 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $30.50 per child under 19
- $61 for the first child in a single-parent family
P.E.I.'s base quarterly payment is:
- $120 for an individual
- $60 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $30 per child under 19
- $60 for the first child in a single-parent family
Saskatchewan's climate action incentive payment offers a base quarterly amount of:
- $170 for an individual
- $85 for a spouse or common-law partner
- $42.50 per child under 19
- $85 for the first child in a single-parent family
With four payments in 2024, here's how much you could get from the climate action incentive payment this year as an individual:
- $772 in Alberta
- $528 in Manitoba
- $368 in New Brunswick
- $656 in Newfoundland and Labrador
- $496 in Nova Scotia
- $488 in Ontario
- $480 in P.E.I.
- $680 in Saskatchewan

What are the climate action incentive payment dates in 2024?
If you're eligible to receive this federal benefit, you can expect to get your payments on the 15th of April, July, October and January each year.

If you get your tax refund by direct deposit, you'll also get your climate action incentive payment by direct deposit.
