6 Class Action Lawsuits In Canada That You Could Get Money From in 2024
There are quite a few class action lawsuits you could get money from in 2024.
That includes class actions against LifeLabs, TD Bank, Dollarama, Apple, and more.
You could actually get hundreds of dollars with some of the class action lawsuits in Canada.
So, here's what you need to know about these class actions, including what the settlements are, who is eligible and how much money is up for grabs!
TD Bank class action lawsuit
The $15.9 million settlement for the TD Bank class action lawsuit has been approved and money is going out to Canadians.
Class members are every person residing in Canada who was a personal deposit account holder with TD Bank and whose personal deposit account was charged a non-sufficient funds fee on a re-presented pre-authorized debit transaction from February 2, 2019, to November 27, 2023.
You need to be an eligible class member to get money from the TD Bank duplicative NSF fees class action.
Eligible class members are class members who meet all of the following:
- was or is a personal deposit account holder with TD Bank
- was charged an NSF fee by TD Bank to their personal deposit account on a re-presented pre-authorized debit transaction from February 2, 2019, to November 27, 2023
- has an open personal deposit account with TD at the time of distribution
All eligible class members will receive an automatic direct deposit of approximately $88 into their TD personal deposit account.
The TD class action lawsuit payout date is expected to be in early April.
Dollarama class action
This Dollarama class action lawsuit in Canada has reached a proposed national settlement of $2.5 million.
If you purchased a product that was subject to an eco fee — including batteries, electronics, light bulbs, toys with batteries and more — from Dollarama in Canada between May 29, 2021, and July 4, 2023, you are a member of this class action.
In Quebec, you must have purchased a product with an eco fee between December 11, 2019, and July 4, 2023, to be a class member.
Each eligible person could get a gift card of up to $15 that can be redeemed at any Dollarama store in Canada.
To be able to claim a gift card, you need to submit your email online by April 5, 2024.
If you don't submit your email by the deadline and the $2.5 million settlement is approved, you might not be able to get money from the Dollarama class action.
Apple iPhone class action lawsuit
The Apple iPhone class action lawsuit in Canada has been settled and Apple has agreed to pay between $11,137,500 and $14,427,500.
This iPhone power management class action is related to allegations of:
- performance mitigation features of iOS operating software versions 10.2.1, 10.3, 11 and/or 11.2 for iPhones
- defects causing the iPhones to prematurely age, degrade and shut down unexpectedly
- defects in the performance of the iPhone batteries
- misrepresentations or intentional concealment concerning the above
You could be eligible to get money from the Apple iPhone class action lawsuit if you owned and/or purchased an Apple iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7 or 7 Plus smartphone device with iOS 10.2.1 or later and/or iOS 11.2 or later installed or downloaded before December 21, 2017.
It's expected that the payment from this class action will be up to a maximum of $150 per device if the settlement is approved by the court.
LifeLabs class action lawsuit
This LifeLabs class action lawsuit is related to a LifeLabs data breach that was announced in 2019.
If you were a LifeLabs customer on or before December 17, 2019, and were living in Canada as of October 25, 2023, you could get money from the settlement.
It's expected that more than eight million people in Canada are part of the class action.
LifeLabs will pay a guaranteed amount of $4.9 million. Then, up to an additional $4.9 million could also be paid out to Canadians depending on how many claims are made.
Each class member who submits a claim before the deadline will be eligible to receive $50, up to a maximum of $150.
You can complete and submit a claim form online or download the claim form and send it by mail or email.
The claim form for the LifeLabs class action lawsuit must be received electronically no later than 5 a.m. PT on April 6, 2024, or postmarked no later than April 6, 2024.
Oxycontin class action
There has been a Canada-wide $20 million settlement in the Oxycontin class action lawsuit.
Class members of this class action are:
- All persons in Canada — including their estates — who were prescribed in Canada and ingested OxyContin tablets and/or OxyNEO tablets manufactured, marketed and/or sold or otherwise placed into the stream of commerce in Canada by one or more of the defendants between January 1, 1996, and February 28, 2017
- All persons in Canada who by a personal relationship to a class member have a Family Law Act derivative claim
To get compensation from the settlement, you need to figure out if you're eligible and then file a claim form with the required supporting evidence to the claims administrator on or before the claims deadline of June 27, 2024.

Once you've completed the claim form and have all of the relevant supporting evidence, you can send your claim package to the administrator by email, mail or fax.
Facebook class action lawsuit
Meta, which owns and operates Facebook, has agreed to pay $51 million in the Facebook class action lawsuit if the settlement is approved in court.
This class action alleged that Facebook used names and photos of users in Sponsored Stories advertisements without their consent.
Class members are residents of B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador, who were members of Facebook at any time from January 1, 2011, to May 30, 2014.
Also, they had to be registered with Facebook using their real name and/or had a profile picture that included an identifiable self-image, and had their real name and/or identifiable photo used by Facebook in a Sponsored Story.
Each eligible person who submits a claim in the Facebook class action could get a payment of up to $200.
