If you shopped at Dollarama in the last few years and noticed eco fees on your receipt, you could be eligible to get money back.

That's because a class action lawsuit against the Canadian discount retailer has been settled and claims can be submitted soon.

This Dollarama class action alleged that the retailer didn't properly display the price of products that were subjected to eco fees and customers were charged a pricer higher than what was displayed.

Now, a proposed national settlement has been reached in the Dollarama eco fees class action lawsuit and Dollarama has agreed to pay $2.5 million.

Part of that money will be used to compensate eligible class members.

Even though a Dollarama eco fees settlement has been reached, the retailer denies any liability or wrongdoing and the court hasn't found Dollarama guilty of any wrongdoing.

If you purchased a product that was subject to an eco fee — including batteries, electronics, light bulbs, toys with batteries and more — from Dollarama in Canada between May 29, 2021, and July 4, 2023, you are a member of this class action.

In Quebec, you must have purchased a Dollarama product with an eco fee between December 11, 2019, and July 4, 2023.

That means you're eligible to make a claim in this class action lawsuit and get money.

Each eligible person could get a gift card with a maximum value of $15 that can be redeemed at any Dollarama store in Canada.

It doesn't expire and can be used in multiple transactions.

How much money is on each gift card could be reduced depending on the total number of eligible claims so you might get less than $15.

To be able to claim a gift card, you first need to submit your e-mail address online by April 5, 2024.

Then, after the settlement approval hearing, you'll be notified by e-mail when the claim form is available if the settlement is approved.

If you don't submit your email by the April 5 deadline and the settlement is then approved, you might not be able to get money from this Dollarama class action.

There will be a court hearing to decide whether to approve the settlement on April 9, 2024.
