9 Unexpected Dollarama Products You Might Be Shocked To Find At A Dollar Store In Canada

Did you know you can buy an axe at Dollarama?

Many people shop at dollar stores for certain products like cards, party supplies, low-cost kitchen items and even food, but there are quite a few items that people would likely be surprised at some Dollarama's in Canada.

During a recent trip to the retailer in the West End of Toronto, I was very much taken aback at some of the items for sale priced at $5 and under.

For instance, did you know that if you're in need of a relatively inexpensive axe, you can grab one at Dollarama? Come along with me as I show you all of the truly unexpected items I found at the store, some of which I was genuinely tempted to buy.

In general, I was surprised to find that Dollarama carried a large variety of hardware items and tools, including this axe I spotted which was very high up on a wall.

If you're not someone who needs extremely high-quality tools, picking up an axe at Dollarama for just $5 for whatever task you need it for might be a better option than buying one at Home Depot or Canadian Tire where they appear to cost upwards of $25.

Similar to the axe, this hammer only costs $5 and it appears that comparable products cost upwards of $10 at Home Depot.

It's always a good idea to have some basic tools in your home, but you don't have to shell out on the pricey stuff when you only need to hammer a nail in every now and again.

If you're trying to grow some vegetables indoors (or something, ahem, greener) this winter, you can pick up a grow bulb from Dollarama that'll help the plants reach their full potential.

Dollarama isn't necessarily the store I think of when I'm considering where to buy items for my motorized appliances, but maybe it should be as I recently discovered they sell engine oil.

If the cold snap in Canada is invading your house via your drafty old windows, for less than a toonie you can grab an insulation kit from Dollarama that claims to protect against drafts and condensation.

Spring is just around the corner, folks, but until then, keep yourself safe from frosty temperatures.

These kinds of message boards were super popular all over peoples FYP a few years ago, so it's nice to see a fairly affordable option of an item that sells for quite a bit more at other stores.

It's a seriously cute way to showcase your weekly menu, remind yourself of the errands you need to get done or to just have a nice little motivational quote on display, because sometimes you really do need to "Live, Laugh, Love."

Price: $4.00

For the apsiring artists out there, you can pick up a sketching set, complete with a movable human figurine so you can practice drawing them in different positions.

This 100% seems like something that you'd spend $25 for at Michaels or another art store, and I was taken aback to see such an interesting product at the dollar store.

Cut Resistant Gloves

If you're a clumsy person, investing $4.00 in a set of cut-resistant gloves could save you a whole lot of pain and BandAids.

Again, this is a product I assume would be in a home supply store and cost much more than the labeled price, so seeing it for relatively cheap at a dollar store seems like a great bargain.

And lastly, it feels pretty common knowledge that you can get scented candles at the dollar store, but did you know you can get a variety of scented incense at Dollarama?

The more you know!

Price: $1.50

If you're looking for more ways to incorporate cost-saving hacks into your life, you might want to check out some of the products available at Dollarama that'll help you have a cheap date night.

For under $5.00, you can find crafts and tools that'll keep you occupied for a few hours and create some fun memories, like playing a Schitt's Creek-inspired game, creating mandalas together or putting together a 1,000-piece puzzle.

As well, if the cost of your grocery bill is burning a hole in your wallet, Narcity recently compared the prices of grocery items found at Dollarama to popular retailers and it seems that some products that are the exact same cost considerably more at stores like Walmart, Loblaws and Metro.

If you're buying Country Harvest Everything bagels, Classic White and Whole Wheat Wonder Bread, D'Italiano Crostini Sausage Buns, Tostitos Restaurant Style Chips, you might want to check out Dollarama rather than heading to your local grocery store.

You can even find products like chia seeds, organic coconut sugar and butter chicken sauce at Dollarama. Go figure!

These prices are confirmed at the time of publishing, but they can change at any time. Taxes and fees may not be included.
