Are Canadians Actually Friendly? Ontarians Are Trying To Settle The Debate & It's Heated AF
Canadian friendliness is known around the world, but is it actually a thing? An Ontario Reddit thread sparked a debate about how true the stereotype is, and people aren’t holding back.
The Original Poster of the thread said that they have travelled around the world and were always confused about the impression foreigners have of Canadians as being super friendly.
So, Redditor posed a question to get to the bottom of why Canucks get the sterling reputation, despite their experience — "Do you find most people in Ontario to be friendly?"

"I honestly find most Canadians are highly introverted, not very social, quiet, shy, and unusually suspicious towards strangers despite violent crime being so low in Canada. Meeting people takes a lot more effort than it should," they shared.
The people of Ontario came through with loads of opinions.
"There is a difference between being friendly and taking initiative. 95% of people in Toronto are friendly, normal people, under the surface. They aren't going to smile at you on the street. You need to say hello and pleasantly discover that people are nice," another Redditor shared.

Someone shared, "We keep to ourselves but will be polite and helpful when approached. Many other cultures are more outwardly 'friendly.'"
"In many cultures, inviting co-workers to your home is common and having your co-workers intermingled with your life is common. It is not common here, work is work, life is life; they are separate things," they added and with 172 upvotes, people agree.

People in the thread also pointed out that Ontario is so big and vast that comparing people in a metropolitan city like Toronto to others in smaller towns such as Lindsay would be too big of a generalization.

After hundreds of comments arguing whether Ontarians are friendly or not, a consensus has not been reached.
But let's talk, do you think Ontarians are friendly?
