Ontario's magical torchlit skating trail through a frosty forest is reopening so soon
Sharpen those skates! One of Ontario's most magical skating experiences is returning and you'll feel like you're gliding through Narnia.
Arrowhead Provincial Park, located about 3 hours from Toronto in Muskoka, is home to a 1.3-kilometre ice trail that twists through a snow-covered forest. Named one of the world's 18 "stunning” outdoor ice rinks by Travel and Leisure in 2023, this spot is a winter dream come true.
Beginning January 17, 2025, the park's Fire & Ice nights return, offering a unique, nighttime skating experience. The trail is lit by hundreds of torches and lets you glide through a star-filled winter wonderland.
The Fire & Ice nights are taking place on Friday and Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. You'll need a specific Daily Vehicle Permit + Fire & Ice permit in order to attend, which can be reserved up to five days in advance on the Ontario Parks Reservations website.
According to the park's Facebook page, the event often sells out, so it's a good idea to book your permit in advance.
No skates? No problem! Rentals are available at the Pavilion, beside the Visitor Centre.
If nighttime skating isn’t your thing, the trail is also open during the day, so you can enjoy a sun-filled winter outing.
Both the Fire & Ice Nights and the skating trail are dependent on the weather, so be sure to check the ice conditions before heading out.
