This Ontario park is a glittering 'winter wonderland' with cozy log cabins and stargazing
Winter is a magical time of year in Ontario. With frosty lakes, snowy forests and shimmering landscapes, it feels like you've stepped through a wardrobe into Narnia.
If you're looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy the snowy season, you may want to plan a trip to this Ontario provincial park.
The destination boasts a range of cold-weather activities, as well as cozy cabins and a sky full of stars.
Quetico Provincial Park, located about an hour away from Thunder Bay, is a snow-filled gem brimming with things to do.
According to the Parks Blog, "once the lakes freeze and snow blankets the forest, the park transforms into a wilderness winter wonderland."
There are endless activities to enjoy, such as exploring the 15 kilometres of maintained ski trails at Quetico’s Dawson Trail Campground. Or, you can strap on some snowshoes and travel through snow-dusted trees to shimmering lake views.
You can even plan a stay at a "real traditional log cabin." The park has three rustic cabins and two camping pods for rent and they're dreamy spots for a winter getaway.
If you feel up to braving the cold, you can head out at night and enjoy some stargazing. According to the park, "Quetico has beautiful natural night skies free of light pollution. Winter’s early, crisp nights are perfect for admiring the night sky."
You can soak up the views from the cabins which have easy access to the lakeshore. You may even spot the Northern lights if you're lucky.
Quetico is recognized by the International Dark Sky Association as an International Dark Sky Park, so you can expect some truly magical views.
Other fun winter activities at Quetico include camping, birdwatching and ice fishing.
