Florida’s natural wonders include so much more than just pretty beaches. From coast to coast and everywhere in between, you’ll find secret indoor jungles, turquoise blue springs, and magical forests. One secret Florida gem is the hidden Edward Medard Park and Reservoir, where whimsical and ancient trees still stand.

The park is a breath of fresh air from the urban sprawl of Tampa Bay, immersing you in Florida’s gorgeous natural world.

It’s also quite a surprise to the local Floridian used to flat and vast landscapes, as the park features rolling hills and towering trees.

Though not native to the area, the hills are actually the result of phosphate mining in the 1960s.

Over time, erosion washed away at the silty earth and exposed the twisted, gnarled roots of the surrounding oak trees, giving the park a totally out of this world vibe.

You can even camp overnight at the park, with over 40 campsites available with electricity, water, and restrooms. Be sure to explore the 3.5 miles of trails in the area as well, either by foot or by horseback.

The neighboring Turkey Creek Stables gives parkgoers a chance to explore the natural wonderland via horseback, and even catch a glimpse of some local wildlife.

With a proper fishing license, you can also take advantage of the 700-acre reservoir stocked full of bass, catfish, bluegills, and tons of other fish.

This enchanting local wilderness is a wonder for all to explore, and whenever you adventure out to it, be sure to be respectful to all wildlife and plants you encounter.
