You Can Join Jason Voorhees At Friday The 13th's 'Camp Forest Green' In Georgia
Spooky season is rapidly approaching, and that means it's time to queue up your favorite horror movie marathons. It wouldn't be Halloween without a proper scare sesh featuring Jason Voorhees, and you can actually experience all the thrills beyond the screen. Friday the 13th Part VI was filmed in Georgia at this lake and it's the perfect spot to relive the days of the "Camp Forest Green" murders.
That's right, some of the notorious slasher scenes from the 1986 motion picture were filmed right here in The Peach State.
In the sixth part of these spine-chilling chronicles, Voorhees is resurrected from the dead and returns to haunt even more camp counselors at Camp Forest Green, formerly known as Camp Crystal Lake in the previous productions of the film franchise.
The camp's real name, Camp Daniel Morgan, is one of two functioning camps at Hard Labor Creek State Park.
Scenes featuring the renamed Camp Crystal Lake were all filmed here, offering a uniquely spooky ambiance as you adventure its landscape.
You can visit the original boat dock and even kayak through the waters for a hair-raising adventure. As you explore the park's two lakes, Lake Brantley and Lake Rutledge, it's easy to imagine Jason reaching up from the murky depths to pull you under.
Explore Georgia has previously offered Friday the 13th guided kayak tours, so keep your eyes peeled on their website for future events.
This 5,804-acre park has tons to offer including a sandy lakeside beach, horse stables, and even cottages and campsites for you to stay overnight, if you're brave enough to channel the Camp Forest Green counselors, that is.
Camping rates range from $15 for a primitive site near the horse stables, to upwards of $625 for a group sesh, depending on which accommodations you choose.
We won't reveal too many spoilers in case you aren't fully up to speed with Jason's gruesome games. But if you're a fan of classic horror flicks, it's worth it to check out this spot for an authentic case of the scaries — and maybe even try to brave the night.
