There's a new Lotto 6/49 winner in Canada who joked that the convenience store cashier never gives him winning tickets.

Then, he immediately scored $1 million with one of his tickets!

Loto-Quebec recently announced that Yves Samson won a $1 million Gold Ball prize in the Lotto 6/49 draw on June 4, 2025.

Samson is from the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, which is along the border with Ontario.

He purchased the $1 million winning ticket at Dépanneur Voisin at 6 Rue des Oblats Nord in Ville-Marie.

The Lotto 6/49 winning number for the Gold Ball draw on June 4 was 69887514-01.

Samson has played Lotto 6/49 for years, and he always uses Quick Picks.

That means he doesn't choose the numbers when he buys tickets. Each selection is auto-generated by the lottery machine.

Samson recently stopped for gas and went into the convenience store to check his Lotto 6/49 tickets.

At the counter, he joked about the store clerk with the customer in line behind him and said, "This guy never gives me a win."

That's when the cashier scanned his ticket at the lottery terminal, and $1 million flashed on the screen. Samson told Loto-Quebec that he was surprised to see the million-dollar win with his ticket.

Samson is in his sixties, and he now plans to retire.

He also wants to fulfill a longtime dream and buy his own home.

Samson won the Gold Ball prize, which is one of two multimillion-dollar prizes that are available in each Lotto 6/49 draw.

With the Classic Jackpot, six numbers from one to 49 are drawn, and you can win the $5 million jackpot if you match all six winning numbers.

Each Lotto 6/49 play includes a unique 10-digit Gold Ball draw number for the Gold Ball Jackpot.

A winning number is drawn from all selections for each draw. Once a winning number is drawn, a separate Gold Ball draw determines if the prize is the Gold Ball Jackpot or $1 million.

The Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot starts at $10 million and can reach $68 million.
