2021 is off to a frightening start as U.S. citizens are protesting the 2020 presidential election results.

Violent protesters have now taken over the United States Capitol Building in Washington DC, where Vice President Mike Pence was set to officially declare Joe Biden the winner of the presidential election later today.

I call on this mob to pull back and allow the work of democracy to go forward. President-Elect Joe Biden

House members and senators were forced to evacuate the building and get to safety immediately as violent protesters broke through barricades and entered the building, where they were seen smashing doors and windows.

There have been reports that law enforcement has used tear gas to help disperse the protesters.

Terms such as "Terrorist" and "Anarchist" are being used to describe the violent protesters on social media, as citizens around the world watch chaos continue to unfold.

No comment was heard from the outgoing President until well after protesters had taken over the building, but Trump eventually took to Twitter and asked his supporters to peacefully protest and respect the police.

Trump has now called in the National Guard to help calm the situation down at the request of Capitol Police.

We will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
