This peaceful lake with crystal clear blue water is tucked away in pristine nature, surrounded by lush forests and rolling mountains. It's known as the "Caribbean of the North" thanks to the bright water, and it's the perfect escape on a summer day.
Johnson Lake is in the interior of the province, a region known for its beauty and outdoor adventures. It's about an hour away from the city of Kamloops, which is a great base for exploring the Southern Interior.
While it's a bit of a journey to reach this lake, it's worth it to dive into the famous water and take in the beautiful scenery.
The drive from Kamloops will take you on dirt roads to reach the remote lake.

The journey just adds to the tranquillity of this place, making you feel far away from the busyness of everyday life.
The wide lake is perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, or just relaxing on the shoreline. While its water is compared to the look of the Caribbean shores, it's not the same temperature. The lake can be chilly, and while people do go for a dip, be prepared.
Once you arrive you'll see campgrounds, and you can book campsites online. Be aware that it's a busy spot though, so might be crowded.

Be sure to bring a 4x4 vehicle for the 30 minutes of dirt roads to get to this oasis. To keep this place as beautiful as you see it, always remember your LEAVE NO TRACE principles. Pack out what you pack in. We saw a couple left-behind empty cans that we cleaned up from previous users.
If you want to go on a day trip, you can pack a picnic and enjoy the view of the water surrounded by towering trees and mountains hugging the shoreline.
