The Alberta winter weather forecast dropped and 'periods of severe cold' are coming
Canada's 2024-2025 winter weather forecast has dropped, and people in Alberta should bundle up for a chilly season ahead. Alberta's weather forecast for the winter predicts "periods of severe cold" to hit the province.
The Weather Network dropped its winter forecast on November 27 and said that the country can expect a more "traditional" winter season ahead, as opposed to what we have seen in the past couple of years. The west is looking a bit different though, as it's forecasted to get the brunt of the cold weather. TWN forecast said that "the focus of winter's fury will be in western Canada, where near-normal and colder-than-normal temperatures are expected to dominate."
For Alberta specifically TWN warned that a colder winter is ahead for many places in the province, including big cities like Calgary and Edmonton.
"Near-normal or colder-than-normal temperatures are expected to dominate most of the season with a heightened risk for periods of severe cold," the forecast said.
Southern Alberta should be getting above-normal snowfall totals, which will make for a "much more widespread white Christmas compared to last year when many places had a very rare brown Christmas."
Although waking up to a fresh coat of snow seems lovely, the risk of blizzard conditions might make travel tricky at times.
It's good news for skiers though, with above-average snowfall predicted for the southern Rockies and foothills.
