As an occupational health nurse with Health Canada, you'll work within their Specialized Health Services Directorate as part of the Public Service Occupational Health Program (PSOHP). This program provides essential services to federal government departments, including occupational health evaluations, communicable disease services, and occupational hygiene advice.
You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes nurse practitioners, physicians, administrative officers, and managers. The team works together to improve the health and well-being of Canada's federal employees.
To qualify, you'll need a degree in nursing, nursing administration, nursing education, or a certificate or diploma in occupational health nursing. You must also be eligible for registration as a nurse in your province or territory.
At least one year of experience as a registered nurse in occupational health assessments or disability management services is required, along with experience in at least two of these areas: immunizations, Tuberculin Skin Tests (TSTs), occupational audiometry, or occupational spirometry.
Language requirements vary depending on the position. Some roles require English only, while others are bilingual. Applicants must also meet specific physical and travel requirements, including the ability to manually lift equipment up to 20 kilograms.
A valid driver's license is required, as some roles involve same-day or overnight travel to various work sites.
