This easy Alberta hike takes you into a stunning red rock canyon with a sparkling stream
When it comes to Alberta hikes, there's no shortage of stunning trails to explore. From mountain vistas to prairie landscapes, the province is known far and wide for its natural beauty.
Sometimes you just want a quick and easy journey though, without compromising on the payoff. This easy hike in Waterton Lakes National Park gives you just that. The hike is less than a kilometre long and takes you through a breathtaking red rock canyon, filled with clear water. To top it off you have mountains in the distance, creating a picture-perfect scene.
AllTrails says the trail takes just 15 minutes to complete, but you can head down into the canyon and explore for longer.
Waterton Lakes National Park is a beautiful nature reserve about two and a half hours away from Calgary. It's brimming with incredible hikes and jaw-dropping natural scenery, and the Red Rock Canyon is a must-see in the park.
A quick stroll from the parking lot will take you to this incredible canyon, with colourful walls. While it's mostly red rock, there are also white and green rock that you'll see while exploring.
A sparkling stream runs throughout it, so on a hot summer day you can dip your feet in to cool off a bit.
If you want to keep exploring you can simply take a longer route, continuing to Blakiston Falls — which All Trails says is a 2.4-kilometre journey.
According to Parks Canada, Red Rock Parkway opens back up on May 1 for the season, but the date is weather dependent.
This is just a taste of some of the adventure within the park, so if you love the outdoors make sure to plan a getaway here.
