The Ontario government just announced that it's about to get a little easier to remember to renew your Ontario Photo Card.

In a news release on August 8, the provincial government revealed that Ontarians can renew IDs and documents like their licence plate, driver's licence, health card and photo card online in a matter of "minutes" (which they say is "easier, faster, and more convenient [...] than ever before").

The Ontario government scrapped licence plate stickers and its renewal fees for most vehicles in the province but not all of them.

Anyone who owns a passenger vehicle, moped, motorcycle or light-duty truck is free of the sticker system but heavy commercial vehicles and snowmobiles still need to throw one on their licence plate (and pay for them, too).

One woman in Ontario, who reportedly hasn't hit the road in the last decade, recently received a cheque in the mail from the provincial government with a licence plate sticker refund.

Per CTV News, Carolyn Johnston from Whitby got $110 back for renewal fees even though she stopped driving 10 years ago after she lost vision in one eye. The last time Johnston reportedly renewed her licence plate was back in August 2009.

Ontario drivers who are hitting the roads without a renewed licence plate can get slapped with a fine for doing so.

"It is the law for vehicle owners to renew their licence plate every one or two years at no cost to confirm their automobile insurance is valid and pay any defaulted fees, fines or tolls. Expired licence plates will remain subject to enforcement action," Dakota Brasier, press secretary for Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney's office, shared with Narcity via email.

An Ontario driver was reportedly hit with a hefty fine for driving without a renewed licence plate in Quebec, even though the Ontario government granted an extension to get them renewed at the time.

Per CBC News, Barbara Francis visited Gatineau Park in early March, then weeks later received a letter in the mail from MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police with a ticket for $494.
