Tenants of a Toronto apartment building say they've received notices of eviction for renovation from their landlord, a company run by a developer whose other operation was reportedly fined in the past for refusing to allow tenants to return after renovating.

Parkdale Organize, a neighbourhood group that fights displacement, rent increases and disrepair, said tenants of 12 Lansdowne received N13 eviction notices in early January for "extensive renovations to their rental units."

Toronto rent prices are slowly going back up after declining during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it could be time to start packing your bags.

According to Rentals.ca, the average price of a one-bedroom apartment in the 6ix is currently just under $2,000, which is down 2.9% compared to the same period last year. However, overall rent, which is $2,181, is up 6.7% from the second quarter of 2021.

A new rental report by Zumper has just been released and it reveals the along with the most painfully expensive.

The report calculated the median rents for the 24 most populous metropolitan areas in the country. It will surprise no one that the most expensive rent in Canada is in Vancouver where the median price of a one-bedroom apartment is $2,000 per month and a two-bedroom is $2,800.
