This Ontario beach with a silky sandbar and azure water feels like a mini trip to the Bahamas
This hidden gem beach in Ontario will have you feeling like you're on a tropical vacation. Offering dreamy turquoise waters and a ribbon of fine sand, it's a magical spot to spend a sunny afternoon.
Tucked away in a scenic provincial park, this summer destination is a warm-weather oasis just a few hours away from Toronto.
North Beach Provincial Park is a beautiful area in Prince Edward County. Here you'll find a silky-smooth sandbar that extends into the shimmering water, sheltering tiny North Beach from Lake Ontario.
There's a 1,200-metre ribbon of powdery sand facing Lake Ontario, and another 800 metres of sand beach on North Bay. The lakeside features a gradual drop-off, while the bay side drops off much more quickly.
The park is a quieter alternative to its neighbour, Sandbanks, which is home to three breathtaking beaches and the world's largest baymouth barrier dune formation.
In addition to swimming, the park offers birding, fishing and boating.
It can get busy during the summer months, so it's a good idea to make a reservation before visiting.
While you're in the area, you can enjoy Prince Edward County's summer charm, with its wineries, quaint villages and cozy markets. Or, head to Sandbanks for more beachy experiences.
