This enchanting Ontario destination is a beautiful spot to explore this spring. With its old-world charm, historic village, and cascading waterfalls, it's like a fairytale come to life.
Ball's Falls Conservation Area is a scenic site located in Lincoln's Twenty Valley, just over an hour from Toronto.
The destination is home to several beautiful trails as well as a heritage village that will transport you back in time.
The village, known as Glen Elgin, was an industrial mill town during the 1800s. You can explore old-world buildings, including a blacksmith shop, flour mill, restored church, and the original family home of the Balls.
In July 2024, Ball's Falls was officially designated as a heritage property, recognizing its significance as a historic landmark in Lincoln and the greater Niagara region.
The 1.7-kilometre Cataract Trail leads through the village and takes you on a picturesque journey along Twenty Mile Creek to both Upper Ball's Falls and Lower Ball's Falls.
The waterfalls cascade over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment and are "in full splendour" during the spring. You can soak up the views of Upper Falls from above or travel down to the bottom for a new perspective. Lower Falls is located nearby.
Other hikes to explore include the Forest Frolic Trail and Switch Back Trail.
