The state of Florida just issued a warning for residents of Gov. Ron DeSantis' current home county

The Florida Department of Health has warned Leon County residents that COVID-19 cases are sharply on the rise around the state's capital of Tallahassee.

The new warning allows the local department of health to shift its resources to help contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"We are at a critical moment in our COVID-19 recovery journey," said Claudia Blackburn, Leon County's health officer. “With increased contact among non-household members, there are many more opportunities for transmission of COVID-19, particularly if public health directives are not followed. Our collective responsibility is to take immediate action, as individuals and businesses, to reverse the trends we are experiencing.”

Florida, as a whole, has endured a record spike of COVID-19 cases since early June.
