Tuesday morning saw the extension of Florida’s state of emergency by another 60 days, confirmed by Governor Ron DeSantis.

The extension will also allow DeSantis to flex his power and make more extensive decisions for the state, including the deployment of National Guard troops, using out-of-state medical personnel, and quickly procuring more supplies.

I urge all Floridians to continue social distancing to help protect our state’s most vulnerable and slow the spread of COVID-19.

He also mentioned avoiding the "three Cs" as well as wearing a face covering when social distancing isn't possible to help reduce transmission.

Florida's COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard currently shows 213,794 total cases in the state.

A surge of 40,000 new cases was reported in the last five days.

The state of emergency, which was originally put in place in March, had been extended once before in May.
