A GTA Gathering Got Slapped With Fines After Hundreds Of People Showed Up

Things got a little out of hand in Brampton this weekend.

While health officials have been warning residents to stay home, it seems that some people aren't listening to that advice.

On Saturday, Peel Region bylaw officers were forced to break up a Brampton gathering that exceeded social limits.

The incident, which occurred at Gurdwara Nanaksar on McLaughlin Road South, was reportedly the result of poor planning for a Diwali celebration.

Upon arrival, officers noted that the number of people in the parking lot exceeded the permitted gathering limits of 25 people outdoors.  City Of Brampton

A spokesperson for the City of Brampton told Narcity that "a charge is being laid under the Reopening Ontario Act" concerning this incident.

However, details of the fine are still being finalized.

Mayor Patrick Brown also commented on the gathering, which reportedly saw hundreds of people line up outside.

"We had one Gurdwara that opted to continue services, they had 10 people inside, but there was hundreds lined up outside to get inside," Brown told CityStudio on Sunday.

"Even though they complied with the indoor capacity limits, they did not prepare adequately for how to handle neighbourhood walkup. The line-up was too crowded."

The mayor states that despite the massive gathering, most places of worship are following the advice of public health.
