The hospital, which was placed just behind Massachusetts General, is the only Canadian facility included on the list.

"UHN is proud and humbled to be recognized for transforming the lives of patients through world-class care, research and education among this elite group of hospitals," Dr. Kevin Smith, UHN president, said.

"We're grateful to our community of donors who are helping to fuel this life-saving work,” added Tennys Hanson, chief executive officer of Toronto General.

The achievement follows the praise that the city has gotten for its hospital system in the past.

Back in 2019, Toronto was ranked the 15th best place in the world for hospitals.

The city was awarded a total score of 94.74 out of 100 in its ranking.
