There has been a dizzying increase in wildfires in B.C. as over 50 are burning through the province while authorities fight to control the flames.

On Tuesday, August 18, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen issued an evacuation order to over 300 properties in Heritage Hills due to nearby fires.

As of 15:00PST, today there are 52 new fires in the last 24 hours.

BC Wildfire Service

According to the BC Wildfire Service, recent areas of note include the Kootenay River wildfire, the Doctor Creek wildfire, and the Christie Mountain wildfire.

The service will provide more updates as they come; however, at the moment, it's just one area under evacuation order.

The Doctor Creek wildfire is suspected to have been caused by lightning and B.C. did see over a thousand lightning strikes on Sunday, August 16.
