COVID-19 continues to spread across the United States, but there is hope thanks to vaccines officially being administered across the country and much easier testing on the way.

The FDA on December 15 approved the first-ever over-the-counter COVID-19 tests, which should provide quick, painless, and most importantly, accurate test results for just $30 dollars.

The test, which is being called "The Ellume COVID-19 Home Test," correctly identified 96% of positive cases and 100% of negative cases during trial uses.

A nasal swab is used to collect a sample but unlike other nasal swabs administered at testing sights, this swab does not have to go as far up your nose, making it virtually painless.

When taking the test, you will download the official app, which is where your results will be sent.

"Today is a promising step forward and we are eager to continue advancing additional innovation in COVID-19 testing that the science supports,” said Jeff Shuren, the director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

Ellume Health anticipates getting over 3 million units out to the public in January, with many more out in the coming months.
